Meet Our Providers

Dr. Jin Wu, PsyD (she/her) is a licensed clinical psychologist fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, where she also earned her MA in clinical psychology. Dr. Wu believes in a therapy approach based on respect for the dignity of each person and their innate healing power. She has a deep understanding of trauma and empathic skills that enable her to establish a personal, human connection to alleviate suffering. Her work focuses on promoting communication, empowerment, self-understanding, stress reduction, self-regulation, and mood improvement.

Dr. Wu has over 25 years of experience working in social services and practicing psychotherapy with individuals and groups. She has worked with individuals of all ages, including preschoolers and older adults (65+) experiencing varying levels of psychological distress. She has treated preschoolers, school-aged children, adolescents, and their families, as well as older adults living independently within their communities and nursing/group home residents with chronic severe mental illness.

Dr. Wu was born and raised in China, where she earned an undergraduate degree in chemistry and worked in a chemical plant. She started her psychology career in China, where she worked as a research assistant in developmental psychology, taught preschoolers with intellectual disabilities, and co-authored two books on early intervention in developmental delay before coming to the U.S. As a lesbian from China, Dr. Wu has been active in the Chinese Tongzhi or “sexual minority” community since 1995, connecting Chinese Tongzhi activists and LGBT psychologists in the US and participating in the work of de-pathologizing homosexuality in China. She has presented on LGBT issues in China at the APA conventions and other professional conferences and lectured on the psychology of sexual orientation in several parts of China. Dr. Wu was also a co-founder of two US-based Chinese Tongzhi groups and a co-organizer of the first Chinese lesbian activist training camp (the Lala Camp) in 2007.
